Updating your HTC S710 handset

If you want the latest version of BT Office Anywhere or if you have had a technical problem and need to restore your handset, you can update your handset. The latest version of the update file (v2.40) was added 9th July 2008. If you have an older version, please update your phone.

Notes:

  • This update will only work if you have chosen Internet Calling (VoIP) when you ordered your handset.
  • Before you start, please print these instructions and read them thoroughly.
  • The update will delete the contents of your handset including contacts, emails, pictures, and videos. As a precaution, BT advise that you back up any personal data before commencing and make notes of your settings and hub details. This will help you to set up your handset quickly after the upgrade.
  • BT does not support Apple Macintosh computers. These instructions only apply to computers running Microsoft Windows.
  • You should only perform the upgrade if you are a BT Office Anywhere customer with a BT branded Office Anywhere handset. If you are not a BT Office Anywhere customer and attempt to upgrade, BT cannot accept responsibility for any damage to your handset.
  • The process may take up to 30 minutes. It cannot be paused so ensure that you have the time available.

Before you start, please do the following:

  • Check the version of BT Office Anywhere that you currently have on your handset. To do this, click on the Start button and select Settings, then Home Screen. The version number is displayed in the Home screen layout box. The version number is in the format BT Broadband Anywhere v2.xxx. Only perform this update if your version is lower than v2.40.

    Note:

The Home Screen default for BT Office Anywhere should be BT VoIP Home screen 1.14t.
  • BT recommend that your handset’s battery is fully charged. To check your battery's level, click on the Start button and select Settings, then More. Scroll down to the Power Management menu. The battery percentage is indicated at the top of the page. When fully charged, the battery icon shows:

If you have not used ActiveSync before, you need to download and install ActiveSync 4.5 (XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista) on your computer. For further information on how to install ActiveSync 4.5 and use it to back up the content on your handset, please see Backing up content on your device.
