How do I set up and use my Samsung Omnia Pro?
Please follow these steps in the order that they appear.
1. Before you start
Ensure that you have the following from the box:
- Samsung Omnia Pro handset.
- BT Office Anywhere SIM card (packed separately in the outer box), if applicable.
- AC mains adaptor or USB cable to charge the battery.
- A fully charged battery and battery cover. When fully charged, the
battery icon is displayed.
An Samsung User Manual & CD ROM are included with your new handset and provide you with all the key functions to use your handset.
Note:
Remember to transfer your phonebook to your BT Office Anywhere SIM from your old phone by following manufacturer’s instructions. The Office Anywhere SIM card can store up to 200 entries.
2. Starting your handset
Note:
Do not use the USB cable to connect to your PC at this stage.
To install the SIM card and battery and activate your SIM:
- Make sure your device is turned off
- Remove the battery cover:
- Insert the SIM card. Place the SIM card in the device with the gold-coloured contacts facing down:

- Insert the battery:

- Replace the battery cover:

- Press and hold the Power button on the top of your handset to switch it on.
- Follow instructions in your welcome letter. You may need to dial the activation number given.
After the SIM is activated, a G in the toolbar will appear. Make sure you are in an area with good mobile coverage. Check that signal strength has at least three bars:
3. Setting the date and time
To set the date and time:
- Click the Samsung Home time display, then tap the Time tab.
Tip You can also click Start > Settings > All Settings > System tab > Clock & Alarms >Time tab to set the time and date.
- Select the correct time zone and change the date or time.
4. Setting up your office email
Note:
Do not connect to your PC. This is carried out over the air.
If you’ve ordered BT Business hosted email together with your BT Office Anywhere package, you should only need to enter your email account password during setup. The other details will be entered automatically. If your email address ends in btconnect.com, you have BT hosted email.
If your email is hosted by another provider, you may have to enter details when prompted. Check what these are with your IT manager.
To set up your office email:
- Tap Start and select All Programs > ActiveSync.
- Tap Menu and then tap 4 Add Server Source:

- In the Email address field, enter your email address:

- Tap Next.
- In the User Information screen, enter your user details:
For BT users, your user details are:
- Server Address: email.btconnect.com
- Username: the one you have been given, for example, johnsmith. Do not add @btconnect.com.
- Password: the one you have been given.
- Domain: HE
- Scroll down and tick the save password box.
- Tap Next.
- In the Server address field, enter your exchange server address, if required:

- Tap Next.
- Choose the folders you wish to synchronise with:
We recommend you tap Next to accept the settings, then tap Finish. - Your handset will synchronise the data you chose with your exchange server. Press the Home screen button to return to the main menu.
- You may be prompted with additional security procedures depending on your company security policy. Once the synchronisation is complete, the following screen is displayed:
5. Setting up other email (POP3, IMAP4)
Windows Mobile 6 enables most email providers to be set up automatically.
To set up your email:
- Tap Start and select Messaging > New Email Account.
- Enter your email address.
- Tap Next twice.
Note:
If the screen displays Auto Setup not found, please see ‘Auto Setup not found’ is displayed. - Enter your name.
- Tap Next.
- Scroll down and enter your password.
- Tap Next.
- Select how often you want your email to be sent/received. The default setting is every 2 hours.
Note:
More frequently retrieved email may result in higher bills. - Tap Finish. Your handset will attempt to connect to your email provider. This may take a couple of minutes. Once connected, it will download your last 3 days’ email. It will then disconnect automatically and your inbox is displayed.
- Tap Menu to display your email options and select Send/Receive to check for new email at any time.
6. ‘Auto Setup not found’ is displayed
If the screen displays Auto Setup not found, you’ll need to obtain the incoming and outgoing mail settings from your email provider and enter them manually.
Note:
With some providers you may need to use your PC to ensure that leave a copy of mail on server is selected. This will ensure that you get the same email view on both your PC and your handset.
To set up your email:
- Tap Start and select Messaging > New Email Account.
- Enter your email address:

- Tap Next.
- Ensure that the Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the Internet box is unticked:

- Tap Next.
- In the Your email provider list, select your email provider:

- Tap Next.
- In the Your name field, enter the name you would like to appear on your emails:

- In the Account display name field, enter the name that will appear in the messaging menu.
- Tap Next.
- In the Incoming mail server field, enter your incoming mail server name:

- From the Account type list, select either POP3 or IMAP4. If you don’t know to choose between POP3 or IMAP4, please consult your email provider.
- Tap Next.
- In the User name field, enter your username:

- In the Password field, enter the password for the email account as provided by your provider.
- Tick the Save password box.
- Tap Next.
- In the Outgoing (SMTP) mail server field, enter the outgoing mail server:

- Tick the Outgoing server requires authentication box, unless your provider gave you a different username and password for the outgoing server.
- Tick the Use the same name and password for sending email box, unless your provider gave you a different username and password for the outgoing server.
- Tap Next.
- In the Automatic Send/Receive list, select how often your handset connects to the server and checks for incoming email messages in (if necessary).

- Tap Finish.
7. Sending an email or text message
To send an email or text message:
- Tap Start and select Messaging.
- Select an email account or SMS/MMS.
- Tap Menu and select New.
- Enter the email address or number.
- Write your message.
- Click Send.
