How do I change my wireless network name (SSID)?

When combined with disabling SSID broadcasts, see How do I disable the broadcast of my wireless network name (SSID)?, this helps to hide your network. It is more difficult for an unauthorised user to guess the name of a hidden network if you have chosen the name yourself.

When choosing a new SSID, we recommend that you avoid anything that could identify it with your company. Avoid, for example, your company name or location.

To change your SSID:

BT Business Hub 3

  1. Open your web browser and type 192.168.1.254 or http://btbusinesshub.home into your address bar. Tap the Enter key on your keyboard.
  2. Click the Settings tab
  3. Enter in your admin password and click on Ok. If you've not changed this you can find it on a card slotted into the top of your hub.
  4. Click on Advanced Settings and then Continue to Advanced Settings.
  5. Click on the Wireless tab.
  6. In the Wireless network/SSID field, enter a new name.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Apply button.
  8. Reconnect any devices that were previously connected to the new network name.

BT Business Hub 2700/2701

  1. Open your web browser, enter 192.168.1.254 and press the ENTER key.
  2. Click on the Settings tab.
  3. Click on the LAN tab, which appears below the Settings tab.
  4. Click on the Wireless link, which appears below and to the left of the LAN tab.
  5. Scroll to the Network section.
  6. In the Network Name (SSID) field, enter a new name. You may be asked to enter your hub password. If you haven’t changed it, your password is the same as the serial number on the bottom of your hub.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Save button.
  8. Reconnect any devices that were previously connected to the new network name.

If you have already disabled the broadcast of the name, you will need to enter the new name of your network manually on any devices that you wish to connect to your Hub.
