Setting up an email account in Windows Live Mail

Quick Server Settings

Incoming Settings:


  • outlook.office365.com
  • port 995
  • SSL applied/ticked

Outgoing Server Settings:


  • smtp.office365.com
  • port 587
  • SMTP authentication applied/ticked
  • SSL applied/ticked
  • Authentication - password

 

Step by Step Instructions

  1. If the toolbar is not displayed when the program launches, press the Alt key on your keyboard.

  2. From the toolbar select Tools, then Accounts.

  3. The Accounts popup will display any existing accounts.
  4. Click Add

  5. Complete the following fields
    • Email address
    • Password
    • Display name
    • Tick Manually configure server settings for email account.

  6. Complete the following fields
    • Incoming server: outlook.office365.com Port: 995
    • Outgoing server: smtp.office365.com Port: 587
  7. Click Next, then Finish to return to the list of accounts.

  8. Highlight the email account and click Properties.
  9. Click the Servers Tab and make sure the correct server details have been entered
    • Incoming Mail (POP3):outlook.office365.com.
    • Outgoing Mail (SMTP):smtp.office365.com.
  10. Select My server requires authentication and then Settings button.
  11. Select the option Log on using and enter your full BT Connect email address and password.

  12. Click the Advanced tab, enter the following details and then click OK.
    • POP3 port is showing as 995
    • SMTP port is showing as 587
    • A tick shows under POP3 encryption for SSL
    • A tick shows under SMTP encryption for SSL

  13. Close the pop up box to exit the list of accounts.
