We're making some improvements to our Manage services website that'll make it easier to use. We've started to move customers to the new site but it's going to take a while until we move everyone over.  In the meantime, we're using two different sets of answers to some of our Frequently Asked Questions. This isn't ideal, we know.

To make sure you get the right answer to your question, we first need to check which Manage services website you're on.

Which Manage services website am I on?

  1. Sign in to Manage services
  2. Take a look at the screen you see after you've signed in
  3. Click on the image below that matches your actual Manage services screen (the new one has a purple right hand column titled Hello followed by your name)

We'll then show you the right answer to your question.

Click on the image above which is closest to the site you see after signing in. More help will then appear here.

What is an alias?

An email alias is like another identity for a mailbox, like a nickname or 'stage name'.

For example: jennifer-anniston@btconnect.com could have an alias of rachel-green@friends.com. You could write to either, but in the end there is only one mailbox with different names.

In order to make your account compatible with Office 365, you'll have to choose which one of your aliases is going to be promoted to a mailbox. To do this you'll need to set a 'from' address.

You can set up an email alias by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to Manage services.
  2. Click on the Email Summary button.
  3. From the list, select the mailbox that you want to add an alias to.

Note: With Office 365 you can only set up an alias with a custom domain mailbox like me@mycompany.com. You can no longer add an alias to a BT Connect mailbox.
  4. Click on View/Add/Remove Email Alias from the list on the right.
  5. Click Add new alias.
  6. Type in the alias that you want.
  7. Select the domain.
  8. The address that you typed in will be validated.
  9. Click Save then Close.

You'll now be able to send emails to this address and they'll show up in the mailbox that you selected.
