How to change your BlackBerry 6 or 7 handset using a Micro SD card

If moving from one Blackberry to another you can carry out a device switch. This includes a backup and restore of your contacts. You'll need a media card (Micro SD card) of at least 2 MB and both the old and new device must have transfer wizard (any V7 device should be fine).

To transfer data from your old BlackBerry to a media card (Micro SD card)

  1. On your phone select the Set up wizard Set up wizard icon
  2. Select Device Switch.

    You'll have two options:

    Using a Media Card, or
Using Blackberry Desktop Software - which is the preferred option
  3. Select Using a Media Card.
  4. Select Save Data to back up to the media card.
  5. You'll be asked to create a password to protect the saved data.

You'll need this password later so ensure you know what it is. It may be advisable to tick the show password box to avoid typing errors.
  6. Click Save.
  7. When it's finished you'll get confirmation that the backup has taken place.

When you're ready, insert the memory card into your new Blackberry and follow the steps below to transfer all the data, including contacts.
