Setting up POP email on a Galaxy S4, S3 or S3 Mini

You can set up your Galaxy phone to send and receive emails easily. Although the steps shown here are correct in principle, some of the detail may differ on your device. You may see slightly different text on your screen or a button may have a slightly different name, and so on. This is because of the different software versions around.

Here we'll show you how to setup a BT Business account using Microsoft Office 365 but if you have email from a different provider then you'll just need to ask them for the settings.

  1. From the front screen select Apps.
  2. Scroll and select Settings.
  3. On the S4 select Accounts then select Add account.
  4. On the S3 scroll to and select Add account or Accounts and sync (whichever is shown).
  5. Select Email.
  6. Enter your email address and password then select Next. The wizard will try to find the settings automatically. If it fails go to step 11 below.
  7. If asked, select the type of account i.e. POP3.
  8. On the Incoming settings screen click Next and then Next again on the Outgoing screen.
  9. If you want, amend the Account options settings and click Next.
  10. Give your account a name and enter what you'd like displayed on outgoing messages. Click Done.

If the set up wizard cannot find the account details then you'll need to do a Manual Setup.
  11. If asked, click Edit details.
  12. Select Manual setup.
  13. Select type of account i.e. POP3
  14. Now enter your settings. For a BT Connect account enter the following details:

    Incoming server settings

    • User Name: youremailaddress@btconnect.com
    • Password: your email password
    • Incoming server - outlook.office365.com
    • Security - select SSL - if that fails try "SSL (Accept all certificates)"
    • Incoming port - 995

    Outgoing server settings

    • Outgoing server - smtp.office365.com
    • Security - select TLS - if that fails try "TLS (Accept all certificates)"
    • Outgoing port - 587
    • Login required - Yes
    • Username & password are the same as incoming above

If the above outgoing settings fail, & the handset allows the options, try the following setting:

    • Outgoing port - 25
  15. If you want, amend the Account options settings and click Next.
  16. Give your account a name and enter what you'd like displayed on outgoing messages.
  17. Click Done.
