Is Up to 20Mbps compatible with my existing modem or router?

In most cases, yes, though some USB broadband modems more than three years old may limit throughput speeds to 4Mbps.

To ensure optimum speed we recommend you use a router or hub (rather than a modem) and connect it to your computer via Ethernet or wireless (rather than USB). These technologies are designed to support the next generation of higher speeds and can work better on longer lines.

If you are subject to a limit of 4Mbps throughput speed and require higher speeds we advise that you purchase alternative equipment. For more information on BT equipment, please visit our  modems section at the BT Shop.
