Up to 20Mbps broadband speed test for BT modem customers
When you are successfully connected to the Internet you will see an icon in the system tray in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. The icon shows two interconnected computers. When data is being passed through your modem, the icon becomes illuminated and starts to flash.

The speed reading is not an indicator of your actual connection speed, but shows the theoretical maximum that your equipment and line are capable of achieving. The units used are kilobytes per second (kBps). To translate into megabits per second (Mbps), multiply by 8 to change into kilobits per second (kbps), then divide by 1000.
For instance, if your reading is 750kBps, the line speed is 6Mbps. If you have noticed a significant increase since you last performed the test, then your line has been successfully upgraded. The table below shows some sample speeds in Kbps with their equivalent Mbps figures.
