How can I cancel a domain name?
For customers with bundled domain names
If you have been provided with a free domain name, you don't need to do anything to cancel your hosting. Your domain expires automatically at the end of its two year registration period.
60 days prior to expiry an email is sent to your administrator email address inviting you to renew your domain name. If you no longer need it you can ignore the email.
For customers with purchased domain names
If you have a purchased domain name, do one of the following:
- Transfer the domain name to another supplier
For further instructions, please see Transferring domains away from BT Business.
BT do not provide refunds for unused registration time. For example, if you register for 10 years and transfer to another supplier before your registration expires, you need to continue your payments. - Remove the renewal flag in the Domains Centre
- Log in to Your account with your primary usernameand password.
- Click on the Manage services link under the tabbed navigation at the top of the page.
The Manage Internet Services page is displayed.

- Scroll down to the Websites and domain names section.
- Click on Manage your domain names.
The BT Domains Centre is displayed with the Domain Maintenance page.

- From the Auto renew status list, select Off for the domain name you wish to discontinue.
- Click on Save renewal changes.
Note: You cannot cancel a domain name prior to its expiry date, however, you can ensure that automatic renewal of the domain is prevented. By default, domains are renewed 45 days prior to expiry and a warning email is sent to your administrator email address 60 days prior to expiry.
