What is an FTP client?
To make an FTP connection, you can use a standard web browser (for example, Internet Explorer) or a dedicated FTP software program, also referred to as an FTP client.
When you connect with an FTP client, it is easy to perform file uploads and you benefit from additional features and security. For example, the ability to resume a download that did not finish successfully is a useful feature for people transferring large files over a dial-up connection.
If you search on the Internet, you'll find there are many different FTP clients available, some of which are free to download. They usually have a two-pane design: one pane displays the files on your local computer and the other shows the files on the remote computer. To upload a file you simply drag and drop from the local view to the remote view.
To configure your FTP client, you need your FTP login details. These are in a different format depending on whether you have the free web space or a premium BT Web hosting product. For further information, please see How do I upload to my BT Business web space?
