How do I use the ZTE USB modem after installation?

For instructions on how to use the ZTE USB modem for the first time after installation, please click on one of the following:

Using the ZTE MF823 (ZTE logo)

Using the ZTE USB modem with AutoPlay enabled (BT logo)

Using the ZTE USB modem with AutoPlay disabled (BT logo)

Note that the steps below only apply to ZTE modems that have a BT logo on them.

Using the ZTE USB modem with AutoPlay enabled

  1. Insert the ZTE USB modem into the USB port. AutoPlay displays the following dialog:

    Install or run program dialog
  2. Click on the Run autorun.exe link.

    An Account Control dialog is displayed, stating that ‘A program needs your permission to continue’.
  3. Click on the Yes button.

    BT Access Manager is launched:

    BT Access Manager detects the ZTE USB modem and starts initialising your ZTE USB modem. The following dialog is displayed:

    The Yellow mobile iconicon in BT Access Manager starts to flash as the ZTE USB modem is initialised:

    ZTE USB modem is initialised

    Once the Green mobile iconicon has turned green, a connection can be made to the BT Mobile network:

    Connect to BT Mobile network
  4. Click on the centre button in the middle of the dialog to connect to the Internet.

 

Using the ZTE USB modem with AutoPlay disabled

If AutoPlay is disabled, you'll need to manually launch BT Access Manager.

When the ZTE USB modem is connected to the computer, it starts in cdrom mode to enable the software and drivers to be installed. Before it can be used to connect to the Internet, it must be switched to modem mode by running autorun.exe. This is normally done by AutoPlay. However, if AutoPlay is disabled or declined then the ZTE USB modem will stay in cdrom mode.

To manually launch the ZTE USB modem, you'll need to do the following:

  1. Click on the Windows Start menu and select Computer.
  2. Double-click on the BT CD Drive iconicon. The example below presents the CD ROM as `CD Drive (G:) BT A´:

    Note: The drive letter may be different. The example below shows how the ZTE USB modem would appear when it’s been switched to modem mode. Removable Disk (G:) is the Micro SD card slot which is within the ZTE USB modem:

    BT Access Manager is launched:
