All you need to know if you're going abroad with your BT Business Mobile device.
What do I need to do to make sure my phone works while I'm abroad?
If you're travelling outside of the UK make sure you phone us at least 24 hours before you go to enable your phone.
Make sure you have a suitable package
Charges for using your phone abroad can be expensive. We now offer a range of voice and data mobile extras if you're travelling outside of the UK. We can discuss these with you when you call us to enable your phone.
Set up your voicemail PIN code
So that you can access your voicemail outside of the UK, you'll need to set up your voicemail PIN code. See How do I listen to my messages from outside the UK? for details on how to do this.
How can I keep an eye on the data charges I'm building up while roaming?
To help you control your data roaming costs a spending cap of €50 a month (excluding VAT) is available to you when roaming either in the EU or the rest of the world.
To help manage this data cap we'll send notification texts (SMS) to customers to advise them when they have started data roaming, when they have reached 80% and 100% of this €50 allowance. Once the €50 limit is reached data usage will be suspended and customers will be advised of this through a final text (SMS) notification.
Mobile broadband customers will receive the notifications via dashboard pop ups and may have to download additional software to receive these notifications.
How do I opt in or out of having the €50 cap?
Just call the appropriate helpdesk:
- Oneplan customers 0800 032 8751
- Customers with more than 100 BT Business Mobile phones 0800 085 8754
- All other business customers 0800 678 1030
How do I make calls when outside of the UK?
To make a call whilst abroad press + followed by the international dialling code of the country you're calling, then the area code without the 0, followed by the phone number - e.g. a call to France would be +33111223344.
Even if you're calling a number within the country you are visiting, you still need to enter the international dialling code.
How do I receive calls when outside of the UK?
This is exactly the same as in the UK, but don't forget that you are charged for these. To minimise expense, call us before you go to add on an international calls package to your account.
How do I use my voicemail when outside of the UK?
If you're in Europe you won't get charged if someone leaves you a voicemail. You'll only pay the per-minute roaming rate if you listen to your voicemail while you're abroad.
Outside Europe you'll be charged the per-minute rate for making a call when you listen to your voicemail. You'll also be charged when someone leaves you a voicemail unless you divert all calls to voicemail, or switch off your device when you're travelling.
All you need to check your voicemail from abroad is a PIN, which is easy to set up. Just follow these simple steps:
- Call your voicemail before you leave.
- Choose option 3, then press 3 and follow the instructions about changing your PIN.
- Enter a number between 4 and 10 digits. Try to make it something you'll remember easily.
You can then check your messages by calling your voicemail from your BT Business Mobile phone or by calling from any other phone and dialling +44 7953 222222. Just enter your PIN when asked.
We recommend that you save numbers in your phone book using the international format, e.g. +442071234567. If a contact is saved in your phone book without the international code (e.g. 02071234567) then you'll need to add the dialling code before making the call.
