Power cycling your Openreach fibre modem and Hub

Power cycling - the controlled shutdown and switching back on of equipment - can often solve speed and connection problems with your fibre broadband service.

Depending on how and when your BT Infinity was set up, you may have both an Openreach fibre modem and a BT Business Hub, or you may have just a BT Business Hub. If you've got both, power cycle your modem first.

To power cycle the Openreach fibre modem

  1. Power off your BT Business Hub
  2. Power off your Openreach fibre modem
  3. Wait for 20 seconds after they've both been turned off
  4. Power on your Openreach fibre modem
  5. Wait for the lights to settle, (the LAN light on your modem will only come on when you re-connect your BT Business Hub)
  6. Power on your BT Business Hub
  7. Wait for the lights to settle, (the power, broadband and wireless lights should turn solid blue)

To power cycle your BT Business Hub 2701

  1. Shut down your computer and any devices that the Hub is connected to
  2. Unplug the power supply (AC/DC) from the back of your hub or router
  3. Leave it switched off for 10 seconds
  4. Plug the power supply back in
  5. Wait a few minutes while it restarts, then try connecting to the Internet

To power cycle your BT Business Hub 3

  1. Shut down your computer and any devices that the Hub is connected to
  2. Press the Restart button on the side of the Hub
  3. Wait a couple of minutes for the Hub to complete its start-up procedures. The Power, Broadband and wireless light should turn solid blue
  4. Finally, when the Hub is ready, turn on your computer and wait until the desktop has fully loaded. Then turn on your other devices.
