Your paper bill explained

Here's a quick explanation of the different information that you'll find on each page of your paper bill. If you click on the Example link at the top of each page section below, you'll open an example bill so that you can clearly see where the information lies on each page of the bill.

1st page of your bill

Example: Front page

Your account number
This is your BT account number. Use it when you contact us about your account and when you want to set up services on your online account. We use this information to know that you are you!

Statement number
This is the unique ID for the bill. Use it when you want to query a bill.

Date
The date when we issued your bill.

Debit balance
The total amount due on your account. If the words ‘Credit balance’ appear by the total, this shows that your account is in credit and no payment is required.

Billing name and address
The name and address we currently have registered for your account.


2nd page of your bill

Example: Summary and detail

There's a section at the start of this page that lists the Statement totals (which are detailed on subsequent pages in your bill):

Cost of calls
Shows the total cost of your calls for the billing period.

Discount/benefit
This lists any deductions we've taken from the bill due to any discounts that you enjoy.

Service charges
Charges for line rental, plus any additional services such as Calling Features.

One-off Charges
Lists charges for products or services that you've ordered that have just a one-off payment, like a connection charge, for instance.

VAT
The VAT charges at the current VAT rate.

Payments
Total payments/credits made against your account.

Balance
Sum total of charges to your account for the billing period.


3rd page of your bill

Example: Summary and details, charges

Date/period
The date/period covered by the charges/credits.

New charges
Take a look at the example from the link above. This shows when you started a service/product with us; the charge is from that date until the date of the bill (which was on page 1 of your bill) .

Charges in advance for...
We charge in advance for our products and services. This sections shows the line rental/service charges for the next billing period.

One-off charges
Lists charges for products or services that you've ordered that have just a one-off payment, like a connection charge, for instance.


Final page of your bill

Example: VAT and payments, Total

Payments
This lists payments that we've received against your account since your last bill.
